A note from Sus: Gift-giving is personal for me. (Not surprisingly, it’s my top love language.) I strongly believe that we surround ourselves with who and what makes us feel safe, inspired, heard, and connected.

All day long, objects make us feel things. A glimpse at a family heirloom reminds you of where you come from and the ups and downs of history. A walk past that mirror you spent months dreaming and were finally able to afford fills you with pride. Dipping your toes into those fuzzy slippers provides instant relief and relaxation.

Marrying what I have to what I feel helps me appreciate all the many objects I interact with on a daily basis. And when one of those objects goes beyond utility–say it has a story or was given to me by someone I care about–I appreciate it even more.

When I look for a gift for someone, I think about them: who they are, where they are in life, what would ease their day, and put a smile on their face. I truly enjoy the search, but I know that some people despise this process, and others simply don’t have time to dedicate to it.
