What’s Good for the Goose: Skincare with Sus

After some quick market research (read: an Instagram poll), it’s apparent that #skincare is all the rage. We’re happy to jump on the bandwagon and share our tried and true faves with you! Below you’ll find Sus’ top picks for AM/PM skincare, as well as nightstand necessities and Zoom “essentials.” Scroll down for the goods . . .

AM/PM Skincare

Step 1: Wash that face! This is a safe space, so I can fess up to the fact that I hate washing my face! However, I can attest to the absolute necessity of doing so for healthy, beautiful skin. If I miss even one night of washing my face, I break out. My favorite facial cleanser is made by Sesderma. It’s soap-free and extremely gentle. I used the foaming cleanser that comes in a pump bottle except for trips. When I travel, I opt for the bar version of the face wash so that I don’t have to worry about buying one of those tiny travel liquid bottles.

Step 1.5: Apply topical acne medication. I’m calling this “1.5” because hopefully most of you don’t need this step. I have some stubborn adult acne on my chin. No matter how often I wash my face or how much sugar I cut out, it comes back! After years of battling the bumps on my own, I finally went to a dermatologist to get sorted out. She prescribe a gel to fight the acne. It works *most* of the time, but I still get mild outbreaks with hormonal changes in my cycle and the odd soda splurge.

Step 2: Serums! I use — and swear by — three Skinceuticals serums. After the old standard face wash, they are what I’d bring to a desert island. First, I apply 2-3 drops of Discoloration Defense (my derm recommended this one for early signs of brown spots, and since I live in Florida with intense sun, it makes sense to me). I follow that with 2-3 drops of C E Ferulic and then 2-3 drops of H.A. Intensifier. In the name of full transparency, these products are hella expensive, but I think they’re worth it if you can swing it. (Want to learn more about why exactly Skinceuticals products are so expensive? Check out this article from HuffPost.). If I had to pick just one for cost reasons, it’s a toss-up between the Ferulic or the H.A. — if you have duller skin, opt for the Ferulic as the Vitamin C will boost your complexion. The good news: you only need a couple of drops, so the bottles should last about 3-4 months if you use the products once daily.

Step 3: The eyes have it. After I turned 25, my normally grey-ish under-eye area started taking a considerably darker turn. I tried anti-aging serums and cooling gels, firming creams and all the retinol you can imagine. And then I found it. Trish McEvoy’s Beauty Booster Eye Serum has changed my tired eyes forever. Trish’s late husband, Ron Sherman, was a cosmetic dermatologist who helped engineer the technology behind the amazing product. Only a drop under each eye in the morning or night — not both — is needed, and you’ll see results almost instantly. (Pro tip: be sure to press and hold the oily solution along the eye cavity to make sure it’s fully absorbed.)

Step 4: Moisturize it, baby. In the AM, I opt for a Sesderma’s C Vit Cream. At night I use Sesderma’s Anti-Aging Gel.

Step 5: All together now: S-P-F!!! Don’t skip it. Ever. If I am in a *major* rush in the morning, I wash my face and slather on my go-to SPF, which is EltaMD’s UV Clear Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 Facial Sunscreen. No sunscreen smell, no thick lather, just protection, protection, protection.

At night, I also use Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask in Vanilla for a pillow-y pout. And that’s the routine! What’s yours? Let us know your faves in the comments.
